Sukhasana

Translation from sanskrit: “Comfortable posture”.

– Sukha – “comfort”
– Asana – “body posture”

It is the most accessible from all meditation asanas. Main drawback of this asana is that biggest part of body weight support is on small area – buttocks. People who already managed more difficult asanas for meditation, should refuse sukhasana.

Sukhasana: Technique

– Sit in Dandasana
– Bend your right leg at the knee and pull the heel of your right foot towards the base of your left thigh
– Bend your left leg at the knee, while crossing your left shin with your right
– Spread your knees wide
– Relax your feet
– Lower your hands to your knees and relax them
– Straighten your back
– Stretch your head up

Effect

– Develops mobility of the joints of the ankles, knees, hips
– Strengthens back by increasing blood circulation
– Improves nutrition of the abdominal organs, lower back and pelvis

Contraindications

– Knee and ankle injuries
