Ardha Padmasana Half Lotus Posture

Translation from Sanskrit: “Half lotus posture”.

Ardha – “half”
Padma – “lotus”
Asana – “body posture”

Preparation posture for padmasana – half lotus posture. Meditation posture in which allowed to make most of pranayamas and meditation practices.

Ardha Padmasana: Technique

– Sit on the floor with your legs stretched out in front of you
– Bend your left leg and place your left foot on the floor next to your right thigh
– Place your right foot on top of your left thigh
– Try to move the heel of your right foot as close to your stomach as possible
– Keep your back, neck and head upright
– change leg positions and repeat posture

Effect

– Opens hip joints
– Loosens knees and ankles
– Strengthens calves

Contraindications

– Knee pain
– Hip inflammation and injury
